Confidential product files and customer-funded tooling require written expectations. This page explains the operating topics to confirm; the accepted quotation, purchase order, NDA, and project agreement remain the controlling documents.

Before files are shared

Request an NDA review if your policy requires one before technical disclosure
Send only the files needed for the manufacturing decision
Identify confidential markings, export restrictions, access limitations, and authorized contacts
Use a controlled revision and remove obsolete or unrelated customer data

CAD and engineering-file control

Project files are used to review, quote, manufacture, inspect, and support the agreed work. Access, sharing with approved manufacturing participants, retention, transfer method, and deletion requests are handled according to the applicable agreement and practical record obligations.

Tool ownership and identification

Ownership is defined in the commercial documents, including what payment and approval conditions apply. When agreed, tool identification can reference the customer or tool number without exposing sensitive product information. Ownership does not automatically define physical location, release timing, export condition, or future service obligations.

Storage, maintenance, and changes

Storage period and environment
Preventive maintenance included in repeat production
Responsibility for wear, damage, corrosion, inactive tools, and consumable components
Authorization and cost process for design or tool changes
Records required before a tool returns to production

Tool release or export

Release after settled payment is evaluated under the controlling contract and any outstanding obligations. Export may require preparation, rust prevention, identification, spare components, a wooden case, transport, insurance, customs information, and confirmation that the receiving facility can install and operate the tool. These items are quoted rather than assumed.

An NDA can be reviewed before sensitive files are shared. Acceptance depends on the actual terms, parties, jurisdiction, scope, and operational ability to comply.

Can a paid tool be moved to another molder?

The project agreement should define ownership, payment status, release conditions, preparation, documentation, transport, and responsibility after transfer.

Who may approve a tool modification?

Only the customer-authorized contact and the responsible manufacturing team should approve a controlled change after its product, tool, timing, quality, and cost impact is documented.
