Injection Molding RFQ Checklist

A complete RFQ reduces clarification loops and prevents assumptions from being priced as facts. Use this checklist even when some answers are still unknown—marking an item ‘open’ is more useful than omitting it.

Files and revision control

STEP or STP model for each part
2D drawing with critical dimensions, tolerances, threads, inserts, and inspection notes
Assembly model or interface drawing when fit depends on mating parts
Revision, date, and a note identifying the file that controls the quotation

Material, appearance, and performance

Exact resin grade—or the mechanical, thermal, chemical, electrical, optical, and regulatory requirements used to select one
Color reference, texture, gloss, transparency, painting, printing, or marking
Environmental exposure, cleaning agents, UV, flame, food-contact, or medical requirements tied to an exact grade and document

Quantity and commercial context

T1 sample quantity and validation objective
Initial order quantity and expected release pattern
Estimated annual quantity and credible growth range
Target market, launch stage, budget constraint, Incoterm or destination if known

Quality, assembly, and delivery

Critical-to-function and critical-to-cosmetic characteristics
Inspection report, sampling, FAI, PPAP, material certificate, or traceability expectations
Hardware, joining, assembly, functional test, and supplied components
Packaging, labeling, target date, shipment destination, and import responsibilities
Tool storage, maintenance, ownership, release, or export requirements

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I request a quote without a 2D drawing?

Yes for an early estimate if the 3D model and requirements are clear, but critical tolerances, finish, inserts, and inspection criteria should be documented before tooling release.

What if the material is not selected?

Describe the required environment and performance instead of guessing a resin. Include stiffness, impact, temperature, chemicals, appearance, regulatory, and cost priorities.

Should I include my target price?

A target can help evaluate tradeoffs if it is realistic and labeled as a target. It does not replace the geometry, quality, quantity, and commercial basis of the quotation.
